Parent Tips to Raise Excited Readers

Tips to get your children excited about reading!

  • Storytime - attend a regular storytime at your local library or bookstore

  • Try wordless books - your children can use their imagination to explain what is happening in the story

  • Tell family stories, why not involve grandparents too?

  • Try audiobooks or podcasts for a change

  • Explore fan fiction - Your child might be a beginning reader but an expert Minecrafter or Fortniter. Fan fiction and activity books related to these passions might just switch them on to reading.

  • Share read-alouds as a family - either you read to your children or everyone takes a turn at reading a page.

  • Read everything - make every time, reading time, signposts, cookbooks, newspapers, gift card
